International Fair of Havana FIHAV-2016
In the words of Rodrigo Malmierca, Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba and president of the Organizing Committee of the fair: "FIHAV is much more than an exhibition of products or a forum dedicated to business. We think that this event is a true expression of the friendship between our countries and of the growing possibilities of establishing commercial and investment pacts "(closing words).
Undoubtedly, the key to understanding the increase in participants for this business fair is the policy, consolidated two years ago, with a new Foreign Investment Law and the intention to attract these investments in the magnitude of 2000M a year, as well as the friendly welcome to the country and the care with which these processes have been developed. In total, 73 countries participated at the fair, with about 500 exhibitors, a number that exhausted the exhibition spaces and made it the largest in its history.
The kindness and professionalism of organizers and participants was also an element that contributed to its success. The agendas of Cuban exports of internationally recognized products such as tobacco, coffee, rum, among others, were well occupied, although, even if we had not arranged a previous appointment, they struggled to find a moment to sit down and talk and explore opportunities.
The Cuba Strategies Inc. team had the opportunity to talk with several Cuban and foreign businessmen, to check the quality and novelty of many of its products and services, as well as to visit the stands of the exhibition hall for the North American companies, where there were Airlines, beverages, construction equipment, technologies for the exploitation of renewable energy sources, among others. The possibilities in investment and trade between the two countries, so geographically and culturally close, are practically unlimited.
The Fair also presented the First Investment Forum and the third Portfolio of Opportunities, which presents the foreign investment projects pre-approved by Cuban institutions. The Portfolio of Opportunities increased this year in 69 projects, compared to the previous year, for a total of 395 investment projects for 2016-2017. The forum was attended by 117 business men and women and 242 appointments were agreed with national entities, according to the national press coverage.
The closing of yesterday's Fair of Havana 2016 marked the beginning of a brief and well-deserved break for the Expocuba fairgrounds, but also the beginning of a new, active and competitive business activity within the island.
